Stupa for the Buddhist altar. It stands on a multi-tiered, square base made of copper. Each level is decorated with fine filigree in floral and geometric patterns, accented with colored stones. Above the base, the dome rises made of crystal. On the dome are 4 small votive tablets with images of Buddha. They correspond to the 4 cardinal directions.
The stupa, or in Tibetan Chörten, represents the Buddhist universe and serves as a Buddhist sacred site. These structures have square and round elements, with peaks or steps. Each peak or step symbolizes a sky, with the top point representing the highest summit of Mount Sumeru, a mythical mountain where Bodhicitta transitions into Sunya (emptiness).
A stupa serves on the Buddhist altar as a spiritual symbol and object of worship. It represents the enlightened mind of Buddha as well as his teachings (Dharma) and is considered a microcosm of the universe.
