Milarepa was a healer monk and poet. He lived at the beginning of the 12th century and spent his life wandering through Tibet, performing miracles, converting the nomadic people to Buddhism, and composing his 100,000 songs. He is considered one of the most famous spiritual poets of Tibet, whose teachings are known in several schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
He was a student of Marpa Lotsawa and an important figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. He is also famous for having climbed Mount Kailash. Milarepa was the most important Dharma heir of Marpa. These Mahasiddhas are the founding fathers of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhist schools.
Milarepa has always been the greatest role model for the Tibetan people, inspiring them for the Dharma (the Buddhist teachings).
Milarepa sits relaxed on a gazelle skin in a half-closed pose, Lalit Asana. He has short black hair and is dressed in monastic robes. His right hand is held out with fingers extended and palm turned outward behind his right ear, as if listening to the echo of nature. In his left hand, he holds a skull cup.
Milarepa's robe, his throne, and the gazelle skin are adorned with fine silver filigree elements in spiral forms and accented with colored silks.
