Chenrezig with consort in Yab-Yum

1.950,00 €

Chenrezig, also known as Khadchheri, appears here with his consort in Yab Yum, a form associated with tantric iconography in Tibetan Buddhism. Considered an emanation of Avalokiteshvara, Chenrezig embodies compassion within the Himalayan artistic tradition.

Chenrezig is seated on a lotus base in padma asana. His consort sits facing him in close embrace on his lap. Chenrezig is depicted with four arms: his upper right hand holds a rosary, the upper left a fully opened lotus; the central hands are joined at chest level behind her back, holding the cintamani, the wish-fulfilling jewel. His consort holds a skull cup in her left hand and a kartika in her right. Both figures wear the five-pointed crown and the full ornaments of a Bodhisattva. A miniature figure of Amitābha Buddha sits in Chenrezig’s hair, while the consort is shown with a third eye on the forehead. His consort is shown wearing only her ornaments.

His robe and the lotus base are decorated with filigree. Fine wires are shaped into spiral elements and filled with small arched units, creating a dense and coherent surface pattern. Turquoise, coral and lapis lazuli stones accentuate the filigree and form a continuous band along the lower lotus base. The precision of the filigreework and the integration of the stone settings highlight the refined workmanship and underscore the precious character of the figure.

The sculpture reflects Vajrayana traditions of the Kathmandu Valley, where ritual identity and visual form often converge. Chenrezig, central to Tibetan Buddhism, appears here in one of his characteristic tantric manifestations.
