Jambhala is the god of wealth, merchants, traders and custodian of the earth's treasures. In his right hand he holds a lemon. Jambhala is quite stout and looks wealthy. He is accompanied by a mongoose that vomits jewels.
Jambhala is also seen as an emanation of Avalokitesvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

He is the emanation of Buddha Ratnasambhava. He can eliminate poverty in the six realms and increase virtue, lifespan and wisdom.
He is also said to be an emanation of Vaisravana, one of the "Four Great Heavenly Kings protecting the world". He is the guardian of light in Buddhism, a great beneficent deity bestowing good fortune and protection. Lord Vaisravana resides in the northern region under the Four Heavens, in the northern Crystal Palace on the fourth level of Mount Sumeru. His servants are either yaksas or bhaisajya-yaksas. According to the commentary on the Lotus Sutra, this heavenly king is extremely knowledgeable, having received many teachings through his constant protection of the Buddhas
