Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of knowledge and learning, symbolically represents spiritual perfection and enlightenment. In Tibet, he is revered in the morning as he drives away the demons of darkness with his flaming sword. This action brings light and allows for a new beginning in spiritual growth and understanding.

In the Nepalese tradition, Manjushri is highly esteemed as the founder of civilization in the Kathmandu Valley. With his sword, he severed the southern hills at Cobhar and let the water of a mighty lake flow away, leading to the formation of the fertile valley – a region known to this day for its deeply rooted spiritual and cultural traditions.

Manjushri sits on a lotus pedestal, his legs in full lotus posture, Padma Asana. His right arm is raised to shoulder height, holding a flaming sword in his hand. Over his left shoulder is the book of transcendent wisdom, the Prajnaparamita, on a lotus flower. He holds his left arm slightly bent in front of his chest, the hand in Vitarka Mudra, the gesture of teaching and discussion. Manjushri wears the five-pronged crown and the full adornments of a Bodhisattva.

The lotus pedestal and the robe of the statue are adorned with fine silver filigree elements made of filled spiral forms. The filigree is accentuated with gilded pearl wire and colored stones. A Dzi bead is set in the center of the lotus pedestal. The pedestal is finished with a border of set dark red stones.

Manjushri, also known by his Tibetan name Jampelyang, is an important figure for spiritual seekers and lovers of Buddhist culture. This handcrafted statue showcases exceptional artistry and the deep devotion of the artists. Its finely crafted details and powerful symbolism invite one to be inspired by Manjushri's wisdom and clarity.
