Milarepa was a healer monk and tantric master. He lived in the early 12th century and spent his life wandering Tibet, performing miracles, converting nomadic tribes to Buddhism, and writing his hundred thousand songs. He is considered one of the most famous spiritual poets of Tibet, whose teachings are known in several schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

He was a student of Marpa Lotsawa and an important figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. He is also renowned for having climbed Mount Kailash. Milarepa was the most significant Dharma heir of Marpa. These Mahasiddhas are the founders of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhist schools.
Milarepa is always regarded as the greatest role model for the Tibetan people, inspiring them with the Dharma (the Buddhist teaching).

Milarepa sits relaxed on a gazelle fur in a half-closed pose, Lalit Asana. He has short black hair and is dressed in monastic robes. His right hand is held with extended fingers and the palm turned outward behind his right ear, as if listening to the echo of nature. In his left hand, he holds a scallop shell.

Milarepa's robe, his throne, and gazelle fur are decorated with fine silvered filigree elements in spiral forms and accented with colored stones.
