Be touched by the sublime wisdom of Padmasambhava, the great tantric master who brought Tibetan Buddhism to China in the 8th century.
This elaborately designed statue depicts Padmasambhava, the lotus-born, standing on a lotus base, with his legs evenly weighted, in Samapada Asana. Behind him is an almond-shaped background, known as a mandorla or nimbus, which is decorated with spiral filigree elements. The nimbus is connected to the round base by a plug-in connection.
In his right hand, Padmasambhava holds the vajra, a symbol of spiritual power, while his left hand carries the patra, a skull bowl. The khatvanga, his tantric staff, rests between his right arm and his chest. Guru Rinpoche's hat and robe are richly decorated with filigree ornaments and artfully accentuated with small colored stones.
