Maitreya Buddha is a future Buddha of the highest importance in Buddhism. He will come to earth from the Tushita Heaven to liberate all sentient beings. He is a Bodhisattva who has been preparing for 4000 years in the Tushita Heaven. His arrival is considered the future of Buddhism.
The depiction of Buddha Maitreya is a vision of the future. He sits on a throne with his feet on the ground in Bhadra Asana, the lucky pose. Maitreya is adorned with rich ornaments and holds the stems of two lotuses in his hands. His hand position is that of setting the teaching wheel in motion, Dharmachakra Mudra. A depiction full of meaning and beauty.
