Akshobhya Buddha Statue – Buddhist Figure with Filigree

Akshobhya Buddha seated on a lotus pedestal. The statue is worked in filigree, gilded and silver-plated, set with colored stones. Akshobhya, the Imperturbable, is one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas. In Tibet he is known as Mitrugpa.

Akshobhya Buddha is seated in the lotus posture, padma asana. His right hand touches the earth in bhumisparsha mudra, while his left hand holds an upright vajra. He wears the crown and the full ornaments of a bodhisattva.

Robe and pedestal are worked in filigree. Thin wire is bent into spirals, filled with small arched elements, and joined in an ornamental pattern. Colored stones are set within the filigree as floral accents. The figure is worked all around and suitable for freestanding presentation.

The statue follows the image traditions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, in which ritual identity, gesture, and ornament are brought together into a balanced iconographic unity.
