Altar Bottle – Buddhist Ritual Vessel with Filigree

Altar bottle worked in filigree and set with colored stones, silver- and gold-plated. The bottle is a decorative object of buddhist art from the Himalayan region. It is intended for use on an altar and serves as a vessel for the ritual water offering.

The bottle is cylindrical in form and fitted with a screw cap. 

The body is worked in filigree. Thin wires are shaped into spiral forms, filled with small arched elements, and assembled into an ornamental pattern. Colored stones are set into the filigree structure, forming floral motifs. 

The copper vessel stands in the tradition of Buddhist altar furnishings, in which form and ornamental execution are conceived as a unified design.
