I am Shanta Shakya

I work in the field of traditional Buddhist art and am based in Patan, Lalitpur — the City of Arts.

Shanta hält eine stehende Kupferfigur in der Hand. Die Robe der Figur ist mit Filigran Ornamenten geschmückt.

My work engages with established forms of Buddhist iconography and with a craft practice that has been passed down over generations.

I developed my skills working alongside my father, Purna Bahadur Shakya, and my practice includes advanced filigree techniques as well as the working of copper, silver, and colored stones.

My statues are shaped by concentrated handwork, a high degree of material density, and formal clarity. On this foundation, I make deliberate artistic decisions. Material tensions and carefully placed disruptions are integral to my work.

I combine disciplined craftsmanship with artistic openness. My works are guided by presence, calm, and expressive strength.
