Ushnishavijaya Statue – Buddhist Figure

Ushnishavijaya on a lotus pedestal. The statue is oxidized and set turquoise stones. Known in Tibetan as Tsuktor Namgyalma, she is revered in Vajrayana Buddhism and associated with longevity, purification, and protection. 

Ushnishavijaya sits in lotus posture, padma asana. She is three-headed, each face bearing a third eye. Her eight arms hold characteristic attributes: a small Buddha figure, a bow and arrow, a double vajra, a vase, and a noose. Further hands display the gesture of granting, varada mudra, and the gesture of protection, abhaya mudra. She wears the crown and full ornaments of a bodhisattva.

The small Buddha figure refers to Ushnishavijaya’s epithet as the “Mother of all Buddhas.” The double vajra represents the indestructible absolute. Bow and arrow are held in karana mudra, the gesture of warding off obstacles. The jeweled vase and the gesture of granting refer to Ushnishavijaya’s role as a bestower of blessings and longevity.

The oxidized surface shows a deep brown tone with polished highlights on the hands, the double vajra, and the lotus pedestal. Turquoise stones accent the jewelry, the vase, and the lotus pedestal.

The figure follows the image traditions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, in which ritual identity, gesture, and symbolic meaning are brought together into a balanced iconographic unity.
