Question about this piece

Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Ushnishavijaya on a lotus pedestal. The statue is worked in filigree, gilded and silver-plated, set with colored stones. Known in Tibetan as Tsuktor Namgyalma, she is associated with longevity and protection.

Ushnishavijaya sits in padma asana. She is three-headed, each face bearing a third eye. Her eight arms hold characteristic attributes: a small Buddha figure, a bow and arrow, a double vajra, a jeweled vase, and a noose. Further hands display the gesture of granting, varada mudra, and the gesture of protection, abhaya mudra. She wears the crown and full ornaments of a bodhisattva.

The robe and pedestal are worked in filigree. Thin wires are shaped into spirals, filled with small arched elements, and assembled into patterns. Colored stones accentuate the ornament and form floral motifs. The statue is worked around and suitable for freestanding presentation.

The statue follows the image traditions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, in which ritual identity, gesture, and ornament are brought together into a balanced iconographic unity.

Ushnishavijaya
