Question about this piece

Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Crystal vajra worked in filigree and set with colored stones. In Tibetan, the vajra is called dorje. It represents the indestructible and diamond-like nature of enlightenment and is regarded as a symbol of boundless power.

The five-pointed vajra is the most commonly used form in Vajrayana Buddhism. It consists of a central axis with four outer prongs extending from a rounded central element before curving inward to meet at the tips.

The carved crystal body is worked in filigree. Small arched elements formed from thin metal wires are joined into ornamental patterns. The filigree is arranged in ring-shaped bands around the central section. Colored stones are set into the ornamentation.

The vajra follows the visual traditions of Vajrayana art, in which function, iconographic form, and ornamental execution are brought together in a balanced whole.
