Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Vajradhara, revered in the Tibetan tradition as the primordial Buddha, is shown here with his consort in yab yum. Vajradhara stands for the undivided nature of awakened wisdom.

Vajradhara is seated on a lotus base in padma asana, his consort seated facing him on his lap. He holds the vajra in his right hand and the bell, ghanta, in his left. His arms are crossed behind her back, forming the vajrahumkara gesture. The consort holds a kartika in her right hand and a skull cup, kapala, in her left; a third eye is shown on her forehead. Both figures wear the crown and the full ornaments of a bodhisattva. The consort is shown wearing only her ornaments.

His robe and the lotus base are decorated with filigree. Thin wires are shaped into spirals, filled with small arched elements, and joined in an ornamental pattern. Set stones are integrated within the filigree, complementing it with floral motifs. The figure is worked all around and suitable for freestanding presentation.

The sculpture follows iconographic conventions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, in which posture, gesture, and ornament are brought together in a balanced composition.

Statue from copper, traditional lost-wax cast, decorated with filigree, gold- and silver-plated, set with colored stones. The figure is patinated. The faces are set in gold. Handcrafted in Nepal.
