Vajrasattva Statue (Dorje Sempa) – Buddhist Figure with Filigree

Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Vajrasattva, also known as Dorje Sempa, is regarded as a central figure of purification in Vajrayana Buddhism. He embodies mental clarity and the transformation of negative actions.

The figure is shown seated on a lotus pedestal. The right hand holds the vajra before the chest, while the left holds the ghanta. In Buddhist imagery, both attributes represent the union of method and wisdom.

The garments and the lotus pedestal are executed in filigree. Spirals formed from thin metal wires are filled with small curved elements and combined into a pattern. Set colored stones are arranged in floral forms and integrated into the filigree. The ornamental design extends around the entire surface.

The statue follows the image traditions of Vajrayana in the Kathmandu Valley, in which posture, gesture, and ornament are brought together into a balanced iconographic unity.
