Bhaisajyaguru Medizin Buddha Statue mit Filigran verziert, vor Aureole auf Thron - Statue

Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajyaguru) – Buddha with Aureole, Filigree Sculpture

5.800,00 €

Bhaisajyaguru is regarded in Buddhist iconography as the Buddha of healing and is known for his twelve vows.

This statue depicts him seated frontally on a richly decorated throne. He wears the monastic robe; the feet rest in the lotus posture. The right hand is lowered in varada mudra, holding a branch of the myrobalan plant, while the left hand rests in dhyana mudra and holds the alms bowl. The facial expression is calm and balanced.

The throne is rectangular in structure and arranged in several tiers. It rests on spherical feet connected by curved shield-shaped intermediate elements. Behind the figure appears a mandorla-shaped aureole, whose flowing contour accompanies the central figure and, together with the throne, forms a balanced and cohesive overall composition.

The garment, throne, and aureole are adorned with finely executed filigree. Set colored stones accentuate the ornamental surfaces. The garment is worked with filigree: spirally bent wires, densely arranged fillings, and small arched elements combine to form a floral structure. The rhythmically set stones follow the linear flow of the garment and articulate the ornamental surface. The throne and aureole likewise display evenly guided filigree, which clearly structures the form and frames the figure in its appearance.

The depiction follows the traditional iconography of Bhaisajyaguru and combines it with precise craftsmanship, in which ornament, material, and form are carefully brought into alignment.
