Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Bhaisajyaguru seated on a throne with aureole, worked in filigree and set with colored stones.

Regarded as the Medicine Buddha, he is known for his twelve vows.

The statue shows Bhaisajyaguru seated on an ornamented throne in padma asana, the lotus posture. He wears the monastic robe. The right hand is lowered in varada mudra and holds the branch of the healing plant myrobalan, while the left hand rests in dhyana mudra in the lap and holds the alms bowl

The throne is rectangular in structure and arranged in several tiers. It rests on spherical feet connected by curved, shield-shaped intermediate panels. Behind the figure rises an almond-shaped aureole.

The garment, throne, and aureole are worked in filigree. Fine wires are shaped into spiral forms, filled with small arched elements, and assembled into a coherent ornamental pattern. Set stones are integrated into the filigree, forming floral motifs.

The sculpture follows the visual traditions of Vajrayana art from the Kathmandu Valley, in which ritual identity and ornament are brought together in a balanced iconographic form.
