Akshobhya Buddha Statue – Buddhist Figure with Filigree
Akshobhya Buddha is one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas and represents immovability and clarity of mind.
The statue depicts Akshobhya Buddha seated in the lotus posture, vajra asana, on a lotus pedestal. His right hand touches the earth in bhumisparsha mudra, while his left hand holds an upright vajra. He wears the crown and the full ornaments of bodhisattva. Posture and gesture follow the traditional representation of Akshobhya Buddha in meditative calm.
The robe and the pedestal are worked with filigree. Spirals formed from fine metal wires are filled with small arched elements and joined into a continuous pattern. Colored stones are individually set and integrated into the filigree in floral arrangements. The decoration runs all around; the reverse side of the figure is fully worked, allowing the statue to be presented freestanding.
This Akshobhya Buddha statue stands in the tradition of Buddhist art.
