Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Milarepa Statue on a throne. The figure is worked in filigree, gilded and silver-plated and set with colored stones. Jetsun Milarepa is regarded as one of the most influential figures in Tibetan Buddhism. As a disciple of Marpa Lotsawa, he played a central role in the early transmission of the Kagyu lineage.

The statue depicts Milarepa seated in a relaxed posture. His right hand is raised behind the ear with outstretched fingers, a characteristic gesture referring to his songs of spiritual realization. In his left hand, he holds a patra, skull bowl.

Milarepa sits on a gazelle skin placed upon a two-tiered pedestal. Both tiers are encircled by bands of set stones. The pedestal rests on six ornamental feet with stylized animal-head forms.

The garment and pedestal are worked in filigree. Thin wires are shaped into spirals, filled with small arched elements, and assembled into patterns. Colored stones accentuate the ornament and form floral motifs. Worked around on all sides, the statue is suitable for freestanding presentation.

The statue follows the image traditions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, in which ritual identity, gesture, and ornament are brought together into a balanced iconographic unity.
