Copper Vessel Set – Buddhist Altar Objects with Filigree
These small copper vessels are decorative objects of religious art from the Himalayan region. They are used in the context of Buddhist altars and, in their form, refer to vessel types associated with Tibetan traditions of hospitality.
The vessels are worked as low-profile forms with spout, handle, and lid. Their design relates to traditional kettle forms that, within Tibetan culture, are connected with the reception and hospitality of guests. In this context, they function as symbolic elements within the arrangement of an altar.
The vessels are decorated with filigree. Fine wires are shaped into spiral forms, filled with small arched elements, and assembled into continuous ornaments. Colored stones are set into the filigree structure, forming floral motifs.
The copper vessels stand in the tradition of Buddhist altar furnishings, in which form and ornamental execution are conceived as a unified design.
