Padma Sambhava, Guru Rinpoche, Buddhist master

The statue depicts Guru Rinpoche seated on a lotus pedestal. The right leg is slightly extended forward, while the left is drawn in close. In his right hand he holds a vajra; the left hand rests on the left leg and carries a patra,skull cup, with an inserted vase. Leaning against the left shoulder is the tantric staff, the khatvanga. The figure wears the characteristic mantle and the folded hat adorned with a feather.

Garment, hat, and pedestal are worked with filigree and accented with colored stones. The ornamentation consists of finely guided structures that extend evenly across the surfaces. Spiral forms, filled with curved elements, create a pattern that is rhythmically articulated by the stone setting. Three dzi beads are integrated into the pedestal. The filigree structures follow the folds of the garment and emphasize their movement, lending the mantle a brocade-like appearance.

The careful and balanced execution reflects handcraft precision and the particular respect accorded to Guru Rinpoche.

Statue, copper, traditional lost-wax cast, decorated with fine filigree, silver- and gold-plated, accented with colored stones. The figure is patinated. The face is set in gold. Handcrafted in Nepal.
