Stehende Padmasambhava Statue der Guru Rinpoche - Statue

Standing Padmasambhava statue, the Guru Rinpoche

Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Padmasambhava, known as Guru Rinpoche, is regarded as one of the central figures of tantric Buddhism in Tibet.

This elaborately designed statue depicts Padmasambhava, the lotus-born, standing on a lotus base, with his legs evenly weighted, in Samapada Asana. Behind him is an almond-shaped background, known as a mandorla or nimbus, which is decorated with spiral filigree elements. The nimbus is connected to the round base by a plug-in connection.

In his right hand, Padmasambhava holds the vajra, a symbol of spiritual power, while his left hand carries the patra, a skull bowl. The khatvanga, his tantric staff, rests between his right arm and his chest. Guru Rinpoche's hat and robe are richly decorated with filigree ornaments and accentuated by small colored stones.

The sculpture follows the image traditions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, where ritual identity, gesture, and ornament are brought together into a balanced iconographic whole.
