Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.

Green Tara is regarded as a fully enlightened female Buddha. She offers protection from the eight fears and embodies active compassion.

The statue depicts Green Tara seated in lalit asana on a lotus pedestal. Her right hand rests on her knee in the gesture of generosity, varada mudra. The left hand forms the vitarka mudra, the gesture of teaching, while holding the stem of the utpala lotus. Two lotus blossoms rise beside her shoulders. She wears the crown and full ornaments of a bodhisattva.

Her robe, the throne and the aureole are adecorated with filigree. Spirals formed from fine metal wires are filled with small arched elements and joined into a pattern.

Behind the figure rises an arched aureole with a central opening. Its contour follows a symmetrical, gently curved form that widens toward the base and ascends into a soft point at the top. The throne has a basic shape of a trapezoid and stands on four legs that curve slightly outward. Between the legs are shield-shaped panels whose silhouettes correspond to the form of the aureole.

The statue follows the image traditions of Vajrayana art in the Kathmandu Valley, in which ritual identity, gesture, and ornament are brought together into a carefully balanced iconographic unity.
