Question about "Ascetic Buddha Statue – Buddhist Figure"
Created in the workshop of Shanta Shakya in Patan, Nepal. One of a kind.
Small gold-plated Buddha figure. The statue shows Siddhartha Gautama during his years of ascetic practice before enlightenment. He is seated in padma asana, his hands resting in dhyana mudra in his lap. A plain aureole frames his head. The depiction emphasizes physical emaciation through prominently visible ribs and the slender form of the body.
The detailed figure is cast using a modern process. Position and attributes follow the traditional iconography of Vajrayana Buddhism. It is suitable for a Buddhist home altar or meditation room and can also be part of an Asian art collection. The statue can be presented freestanding.
